You’ve got three projects at work that are on deadline, you need to find a gift for your mom’s birthday this weekend and help set up the party, and you still have to find time to get your bangs cut before you can’t see. You’re busy. And busy people don’t have time to remember to thaw chicken.

Unfortunately, the result is a chicken breast that is a block of ice and there’s not much you can do with frozen chicken. But there is a way to thaw it out quickly. This trick works if the piece of chicken is relatively thin (think 1 inch and under), but also works with other pieces of meat if you stick by the same rule.

Step #1

Take a Ziploc bag and place the chicken pieces inside.

Step #2

Pour hot tap water into a bowl and check the temperature. You are aiming for 140°F.

Step #3

Place the Ziploc bag in the water until it is fully submerged. You want to stir the water every so often so all the ice breaks up. The chicken should take around 30 minutes to thaw out.
