Smoothies can be such a great addition to your day, but sometimes they can be the worst. If you like to go and get your smoothies from cafes or restaurants, beware of the adding sugar you can be getting yourself into. Luckily, making them at home is super easy and you can perfect the art of smoothie making with just a few key pointers.

Fruit

For smoothies, you can use fresh or frozen fruit. Sometimes it’s even nice to freeze some fresh fruit to have a smoothie, especially if they are starting to go a little soft. But don’t ever use canned fruits, as they have a ton of added sugar.

Vegetables

Sneaking your vegetables into a smoothie is one of the easiest things to do. So many vegetables blend up so well you won’t even taste them. Try a leafy green like spinach, kale, or even chard leaves! They all have such a neutral taste you’ll forget they’re even in there.

Liquid

Most people make the mistake of using juice in their smoothies. While it does make it smooth, it also adds a lot of unnecessary sugar. If you want to add juice, squeeze it yourself, or just use water or plant-based milk.
