So, you’re on a quest to craft the ultimate salsa? Whether you’re someone who reaches for the mild sauce without fail or you’re the daredevil who craves that fiery kick, we’ve got you covered. Let’s walk through a salsa recipe that you can fine-tune from “no sweat” mild to “call the fire department” hot.

Base Ingredients:

  • 6 ripe tomatoes, medium-sized
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste

Heat Adjustments:

  • Mild: 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • Medium: 2 jalapeños, seeded and minced
  • Hot: 2 serrano peppers, minced with seeds
  • Fiery Hot: 2-3 habanero peppers, minced with seeds

Instructions:

  1. Start by blanching the tomatoes to remove the skins easily. Once cooled, the skins should peel off effortlessly. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces.
  2. Mix tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, and salt in a bowl for the salsa base.
  3. Customize the heat: green bell pepper for mild, jalapeños for medium, serrano peppers for hot, and habanero peppers for fiery hot.
  4. Let the salsa marinate in the fridge for at least an hour to blend flavors.
  5. Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, or as a condiment. It’s a versatile hit!
