Ingredients (to frost one cake)

  • 1 ½ cups of chopped dates
  • 2 cups of water
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter 

Instructions

  1. 1. Ensure that the dates are finely chopped.
  2. 2. Place the dates and the water in a pan. Bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  3. 3. Cook the dates for 25 minutes, or until they have formed a thick paste.
  4. 4. Stir the salt and butter into the spread, then leave to cool before using to fill a cake, smooth over cookies, or drizzle over ice cream.
