What is your favorite breakfast food? If you are from Spain, there’s a pretty good chance that your preferred food to start the day is a bit of toast topped with crushed tomatoes and Spanish ham.

This breakfast, known as pan tumaca con jamón serrano, is easy to replicate at home no matter where you live! Here’s how to make it your own.

Ingredients

  • Two slices of fresh bread
  • One small tomato
  • Spanish jamón serrano or prosciutto
  • Olive oil
  • Kosher Salt
  • One garlic clove

Instructions

  • Start off by taking your two slices of fresh bread, adding a little bit of olive oil on the white part, and putting them into a toaster oven. You want to toast them until they are slightly golden-brown.
  • Next, rub the garlic clove onto the two pieces of bread to ensure that they have a bit of garlic essence.
  • After that, cut the tomato in half and then rub it thoroughly onto the toasted bread. You want to be sure that both the juice and some of the flesh rubs off onto it.
  • Next, dollop a bit of olive oil onto the tomato on top of the bread.
  • Finally, add a couple of slices of jamón serrano or prosciutto on top of the tomato, and your Spanish breakfast toast is ready to be enjoyed!
