Satisfy your sweet tooth with the irresistible aroma and taste of homemade churros. These delightful Spanish treats are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and coated in a generous dusting of cinnamon sugar. Here’s a recipe to help you make them.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, white sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once the mixture is boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a smooth dough and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Alternatively, you can use a sturdy plastic bag with a corner snipped off.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or pot to 180°C (350°F) over medium heat. Carefully pipe 4-5 inch lengths of dough directly into the hot oil, using a pair of kitchen scissors to cut the dough from the piping bag. Fry the churros in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet.
  5. Fry the churros for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally with tongs, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. While the churros are frying, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  6. Remove the fried churros from the oil using a slotted spoon and immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated. Transfer the coated churros to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving. They will go great dipped in melted chocolate!
