For many of us, Christmas dinner is something we look forward to for weeks. It’s a special winter feast to be enjoyed with loved ones, and everyone has their own personal way of doing things. However, if you’re looking for inspiration for some sides to bulk out the meal, then here are three simple ideas.

Maple Roasted Carrots and Parsnips

These lovely root vegetables are the perfect accompaniment to a hearty Christmas meal, and roasting them in maple brings out their natural sweetness and results in the most indulgent veggie side dish. Just slice some carrots and parsnips and place them in an ovenproof dish with olive oil, maple syrup, rosemary, and seasoning. Roast in a hot oven for 30-40 minutes.

Red Cabbage and Bacon

Simply fry up some shredded red cabbage with some bacon and red onion. You can add a few splashes of red wine vinegar to emulate braised cabbage, or just enjoy it as is. The salty, tasty bacon pairs perfectly with the crunchy, fresh cabbage, and the red onion brings out a delicious sweetness.

Roasted Sprouts and Chestnuts

Brussel sprouts and chestnuts are both synonymous with Christmas, so make the most of them by pairing them in an ovenproof dish with olive oil, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Pop in the oven for 30-40 minutes and enjoy the crispy and tender treats.
