Pouring leftover cooking grease can leave you dealing with sewer blockages and blocked pipes, but that’s not stopping a lot of people from doing it. If you happen to be one of them because it seems like the only possible choice, here are some much better and responsible options.

Safe Disposal

Pouring your grease down the drain may be the fastest way to get rid of it, but it’s definitely not the best. You should at least wait until it cools down and pour it into a container that you’re going to throw away or use paper towels to soak up the grease.

Reusing Your Grease

There’s no need to immediately throw away your grease if there are ways to put it to some good use again. Don’t wash your skillet right away if the grease is still in a good condition and can be used to fry another meal. Pouring it into a tiny container and saving it for later use is also an option.

Start Recycling

Cooking grease can be recycled, but using this method to get rid of it will require some digging. Do your research and check if any local businesses or recyclers nearby are accepting used oils.
