Now that we’re in the midst of fall, it’s time to start enjoying all the spices that are associated with this time of year. Whether you’re making baked goods or stews, these spices will make your kitchen smell amazing.

Allspice

Allspice is available whole or ground and it combines cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. It adds flavor to stews, carrots, poultry, cakes, cookies, and bread.

Cardamom

A staple of Indian cuisine, cardamom tastes amazing in baked goods, especially when it’s paired with cinnamon, cloves, and chocolate.

Cinnamon

This slightly bittersweet to mildly sweet spice can be used for baking as well as in stews, curries, squash, beef, and oatmeal.

Cloves

Whole or ground, cloves make a nice addition to sweat breads, carrots, potatoes, onions, chocolate, and coffee.

Nutmeg

The spicy, sweet, and warm flavor of nutmeg makes baked goods, spinach, and squash so much tastier. Nutmeg can be bought whole or ground.
