It is no wonder that rice is a favorite dish in many cuisines around the world. However, some people find it hard to get a satisfying result when they make rice at home. We gathered a few tips to help you cook rice like a pro.

Know your grain

There are over 40,000 types of rice over the world. Each one of them has its own qualities and characteristics which affects how you cook it. There are three basic rice categories of white rice:

  • Long-grain is fluffier, commonly cooked plain to serve as a side dish
  • Medium-grain is starchy and used in risotto, for example.
  • Short-grain is plump and often sticky, used to make sushi.

Get the right pot

Choosing the right size of the pot can make a big difference. If your pot is too big, the rice may be uncooked because of the lack of steam. A pot that is too small may steam too quickly and will make your rice sticky and moist. If you cook 1-2 cups of rice you should probably use a 2-liter pot.

Keep a lid on

For the steams to properly cook the rice, the lid of your pot should be on during the entire cooking process. Yes, you can take a peek or two, but try to keep the lid well on during the rest of the time.

Let it rest

Some things are worth waiting for. When your rice is ready, keep the lid on and wait for 10 minutes. It will allow the rice to absorb the moisture and become much more fluffy and tasty.
