Brussels sprouts are healthy and nutritious, but good luck finding people who actually like to eat them. Their bitter taste is usually too much for most people, even with all the benefits that come from eating it. Luckily, there are some things you can do to make Brussels sprouts taste better and help them break into your diet.

Be Picky About Brussels Sprouts You Buy

When buying Brussels sprouts, you need to follow a few simple guidelines to choose the best ones. It is always good to go with ones that are brightly colored and feel compact when touched. Also, the smaller Brussels sprouts are less bitter.

Clean Them

When we say clean the Brussels sprouts, we don’t mean just rinsing them under water. You should also remove the stem because it can get quite hard, and remove the outer layers that seem damaged or have different coloring.

Roast Them Longer

If you are roasting Brussels sprouts, make sure they spend more time on the heat than other veggies. The heat will get the sweetness out of the Brussels sprouts and help tone down the bitterness. You’ll also get that nice crisp.

Add Salt or Sweeteners

When cooking Brussels sprouts, your goal should be to make them less bitter. Salt and sweeteners can do wonders with this. For example, salt Brussels sprouts generously before cooking and then sprinkle them with a bit more salt when they’re done. You can also take a different route and add a sweet component by combining them with dried fruit or brushing them with a bit of brown sugar or molasses.
