Most cooks don’t think about the healing properties of the herbs and plants they grow in their gardens. Rather, they focus on what will taste good and the nutritional benefits. However, many delicious herbs also have a plethora of healing properties that many people don’t know about.

Cilantro

This is the herb that everyone either loves or hates. To some people, it’s like eating soap, and to others it adds a fine dash of flavor, especially in Mexican food. A lot of research has been done around why people love or hate it, and along the way it was discovered that cilantro actually aids in digestion. There’s also an association between cilantro and the removal of heavy metals.

Peppermint

Peppermint is commonly used in a tea form, as it is known to have a soothing effect, especially for digestion. However, it can be turned into a topical cream and rubbed on sore joints and muscles as well, providing a natural cooling sensation.

Thyme

Another common herb with great healing properties is thyme. Thyme is most effective when turned into an oil. It works as a natural antibacterial and antiseptic, which is good for small wounds when there are no store-bought alternatives around.
