French Gougeres are the Cheese Puffs Of Your Dreams

French gougeres are tasty cheese puffs that you can make in less than an hour. Check out the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into cubes
  • 2 teaspoons minced chives or 1-2 teaspoons minced fresh thymes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup grated cheese
  • big pinch of chile powder or a few turns of freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

Set the oven to 425 F degrees and prepare a baking sheet with cooking spray or parchment paper.

Get a saucepan and fill it with water, salt, butter, and pepper. Wait for the butter to melt, then include the flour. Start mixing constantly until you get a smooth ball.

Take the saucepan away from the heat and let it stay there for two minutes.

Get your mixer and place the paddle attachment. Include the eggs, one by one, mixing constantly. Mix until there are no more lumps.

Include the chives and 3/4 of the grated cheese and stir again.

Transfer the dough into a pastry bag and start making the gougeres in a round shape. Use the remaining cheese on top of the puffs.

Bake them for 5 minutes, then lower the heat to 375 F degrees and continue baking for 20 more minutes.
