Onion dip is a classic and beloved addition to any snack spread. Whether it’s a casual game night or a formal dinner party, onion dip is always a hit. Its creamy texture combined with the sweet and savory flavor of caramelized onions is hard to resist.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Begin by melting butter or heating olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt, then cook slowly. The onions should soften and gradually turn a deep golden brown. Once caramelized, set the onions aside to cool.
  2. While the onions cool, mix the sour cream and mayonnaise. Add garlic powder, and if you’re using Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce, add it now. Stir until well combined.
  3. Once the onions have cooled to room temperature, finely chop them and add them to the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture. Stir well.
  4. Taste your dip and add salt and pepper to taste. Cover the dip and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour, and enjoy!
