Onion dip is a classic and beloved addition to any snack spread. Whether it’s a casual game night or a formal dinner party, onion dip is always a hit. Its creamy texture combined with the sweet and savory flavor of caramelized onions is hard to resist.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions
- 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 1 cup of mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Begin by melting butter or heating olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt, then cook slowly. The onions should soften and gradually turn a deep golden brown. Once caramelized, set the onions aside to cool.
- While the onions cool, mix the sour cream and mayonnaise. Add garlic powder, and if you’re using Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce, add it now. Stir until well combined.
- Once the onions have cooled to room temperature, finely chop them and add them to the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture. Stir well.
- Taste your dip and add salt and pepper to taste. Cover the dip and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour, and enjoy!
