Homemade Natural Food Dye

Food dye has never been a healthy addition to your diet. Most of the time the artificial colors are made up of petroleum, which is definitely not something you want in your body. Instead, use these ingredients to give your dishes the color you want without sacrificing your health to do so.

Red/Pink

If you want a beautiful shade of red or pink, use beets. You can either incorporate a bit of beet puree into your dish if you want to turn your hummus into a more exciting color or simply juice them and add to frosting or cake mixes.

Green

Matcha is a ground type of green tea leaf and an excellent natural food dyer. Simply add a bit to whatever you are making or baking, and be amazed by the vibrant green color you’ll get.

Blue

While there are no naturally blue foods in the world, you can easily make blue dye at home with a crunch ingredient-red cabbage! Although the name says red, the color is actually purple, and when mixed with baking soda it turns to blue!

Purple

Blueberries are actually naturally a deep purple color, so use their juice or puree in your foods to give a natural purple hue.
