We already know that sustainability means that you use a product to it’s fullest. But, even though this usually applies to household items or even food, cocktails are also a perfect way for sustaining a green lifestyle. Take these tips into consideration when you’re having your next cocktail party and do a little bit of good for the environment while you’re at it.

Avocado Pit Orgeat

Orgeat is a sweet syrup added to different drinks like a Trinidad Sour or Royal Pearl, and usually has an almond taste to it. Avocado pits make a great substitution and are actually very easy to incorporate into this syrup. Simply grind the pits in a food processor or strong blender – don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it sounds because the pits have a high water content. Toast it for a few minutes on the stove to bring out the nuttiness of it and combine with water and sugar.

Citrus Infused Vodka

Using infused alcohols in cocktails are both innovative and eco friendly. Take whatever citrus husks you have on hand, blanch them, and add them to a jar of vodka. Let it sit for a few weeks in a dark place so that the flavors can marry, and you have the perfect accompaniment to any citrus based cocktail.
