There is a common misconception that most herbs should only help out in the savory department of the kitchen. Although they are vital to roasts, stews, and more, they have so much more to offer than in just savory applications! Go to your garden or pick some up at the store and experiment with these unique and fun herb combinations.

Basil

You will be hard-pressed to find an Italian kitchen without basil. However, it’s now time to bring it into the world of sweets. Pair it instead with macerated strawberries and balsamic vinegar and you will never look at basil the same.

Thyme

With it’s earthy, woody flavor, thyme is normally essential in sauces and roasts. But thyme has much to give, and should not be subjected to simply being pulled out of the dish at the end before serving. Instead, use thyme in a bright lemon and thyme tea bread. Top with a simple glaze and prepared to be wowed.

Rosemary

Rosemary is an amazing addition to alcoholic beverages with its distinct fragrant and woody scent. Use it when making gin and tonics to give it warmth or add it to mulled wine as the perfect accompaniment to all the already savory spices.
