If you’re planning to make sushi at home or looking to switch up your regular routine with some new flavors, sushi rice is a great option. Let’s jump in.
Ingredients
- 4 cups of sushi rice
- 4.8 cups of water
- 11 Tablespoons rice vinegar
- 3 Tablespoons white sugar
- 3 teaspoons salt
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under running water for 3 minutes until the water runs clear.
- Add the rice and water to a pot and let it soak for 20 minutes.
- Turn the pot on to high heat and let the water come to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- Once the water boils, cover the pot, and bring the heat down to low. Cook for 10 minutes.
- If there is still some water left in the pot, let it cook for a few minutes longer until all the water has evaporated. Then, let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Use plastic or wood spoons (not steel!) to remove the rice from the pot. If something sticks to the pot, leave it and don’t use it for your sushi.
- Combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a cup and heat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. Give it a stir and add it to a bowl with your cooked rice. Enjoy!
