If you’re planning to make sushi at home or looking to switch up your regular routine with some new flavors, sushi rice is a great option. Let’s jump in.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of sushi rice
  • 4.8 cups of water
  • 11 Tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons white sugar
  • 3 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under running water for 3 minutes until the water runs clear.
  2. Add the rice and water to a pot and let it soak for 20 minutes.
  3. Turn the pot on to high heat and let the water come to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the water boils, cover the pot, and bring the heat down to low. Cook for 10 minutes.
  5. If there is still some water left in the pot, let it cook for a few minutes longer until all the water has evaporated. Then, let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Use plastic or wood spoons (not steel!) to remove the rice from the pot. If something sticks to the pot, leave it and don’t use it for your sushi.
  7. Combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a cup and heat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. Give it a stir and add it to a bowl with your cooked rice. Enjoy!
