Sparkling water is surging in popularity lately. One of the reasons for this boom is that many consumers are turning to sparkling water as a sugar-free alternative to carbonated sodas. But is it actually as good for us as we think it is? Let’s dive into the pros and cons of sparkling water.

What Exactly is Sparkling Water?

Sparkling water is plain water that has been infused with carbon dioxide gas which makes it bubbly. Some sparkling water, like Pellegrino for example, are naturally sparkling mineral waters from mineral springs in France and Italy.

Is Carbonated Water Good For Us?

If the sparkling water doesn’t contain any added sugar or artificial flavoring and sweeteners, drinking it is as hydrating as drinking still water. One of the main concerns some people have about drinking sparkling water is that it could harm the enamel of our teeth. The truth is, sparkling water is only slightly harsher on our teeth than plain water and much less harmful than soft drinks. Other benefits of this drink are that it can relieve symptoms of indigestion and constipation, and it can enhance the feeling of fullness after a meal, thus aiding with weight loss.
