While many kitchen tools may appear to serve a specific purpose, not all of them are necessary. What’s more, some of them may be a downright waste of money and counter space. Here are some of the kitchen tools that professional chefs believe may be best to avoid.

Single-Purpose Appliances

Director of Culinary at Elior North America Chris Aquilino explained that single-purpose appliances take up unnecessary space in your kitchen, especially when multi-purpose appliances can perform the same tasks and more. Examples include hotdog warmers, ice cream makers, and popcorn machines.

Fancy Plates

While you may like the idea of having upscale cutlery that you only use on special occasions, not only do these take up unnecessary space in your cupboard, but you probably won’t use them as much as you hoped you would. “We tend to collect way too much stuff, especially in our kitchens,” Aquilino commented.

Decorative Wine Corks

While they may make for nice decoration on a bar cart, decorative wine corks are far from an essential tool. “Just use your wine cork,” Aquilino remarked. Instead, if you have a large number of guests, you may just end up finishing all of the bottles anyway.
