Pomegranates are a truly spectacular fruit. The seeds that live inside the red fruit are bursting with antioxidants and some seriously strong cancer-fighting properties. Pomegranates are something you might see already seeded in the refrigerator section of your grocery store, but buying them already seeded can be really expensive. Instead, buy a whole one and get out the seeds yourself! Once you get the hang of it, it takes less than 5 minutes and you’ll have tons of beautiful pomegranate seeds!
Instructions
- Cut the pomegranate in half widthwise.
- Hold the pomegranate half in your hand over a bowl with the seeds facing down into the bowl.
- Take a heavy wooden spoon and start tapping the pomegranate so the seeds fall out.
- When there aren’t too many seeds left, don’t hit too hard because you don’t want all the white pitch coming out.
- Discard the empty half and continue with the other one.
How to use the seeds
The possibilities for pomegranate seeds are really endless. Add them to your morning oatmeal, a salad of arugula and goat cheese, or juice them to perfection!
