Garlic bread is amazing stuff, whether it’s making up the basis of your meal or is simply there as a delicious side. Often store bought breads don’t quite live up to your dreams, but the thought of making garlic bread from scratch is daunting. Why not try this cheat’s recipe, which uses store bought rolls and a grill to get garlic bread on the table in under 10 minutes?

Garlic Bread

Ingredients (to serve 4):

  • 4 ciabatta style rolls (or 1 loaf)
  • 3/4 cup of butter
  • 3 bulbs of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a pan, and add the peeled, crushed cloves from 2 of the bulbs. Keep the garlic moving, and cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic paste and salt to the butter, stir through well.
  3. Slice each roll (or the loaf) in half horizontally.
  4. Turn the grill to a medium heat.
  5. Spread a generous amount of the butter in the centre of each roll, or in the loaf, but don’t use all of it. Sandwich the bread back together, then make cuts in the top of the bread.
  6. Crush the remaining cloves and add these to the remaining butter. Spread this inside the cuts on top of the bread.
  7. Pop under the grill and cook for 7 – 8 minutes.

The beauty of this recipe is that you can adapt the quantities to make the bread as buttery or garlicky as you like! You could also add fresh herbs or cheese, if you wanted to elevate the bread even more.
