There cannot be Thanksgiving without gravy. However, if you are vegan, you don’t have to miss out on all the goodness! Making vegan gravy is super easy and delicious, and definitely something you can whip up in 15 minutes or less. This is the perfect sauce to bring to a Thanksgiving dinner not just for the vegans among the guests, but for everyone to enjoy!

Ingredients

The key ingredient for this gravy is mushrooms. Mushrooms give it a really meaty flavor, as well as that unmistakable gravy color.

Instructions

  1. Start by chopping up mushrooms, whatever type is your favorite or most convenient.
  2. Then, chop up 1 whole onion finely.
  3. Saute the onions and mushrooms together until they are soft.
  4. Sprinkle over 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for a couple of minutes to get out the flour taste and make the gravy altogether richer.
  5. Slowly pour in 2 cups of your non-dairy milk of choice and whisk the mixture while you pour. This will ensure a smooth gravy.
  6. Season the gravy with dried or fresh sage, salt, and freshly ground black pepper and cook until the gravy has thickened nicely.
  7. Store in the fridge until you need it, and when reheating, just add a little water to loosen it up a bit.
