Nightshades are a group of vegetables including peppers, eggplants, potatoes, and tomatoes. Some dieticians have announced that the alkaloids found in nightshades are not as easily digested for some folks, comparing it to things like a gluten allergy or being lactose intolerant. For these people, eating nightshades can aggravate inflammation.

However, all these vegetables are high in vitamin C and lycopene, which are two nutrients that can work together to fight inflammation in the body. Nightshades also have a variety of other nutritional benefits such as vitamin K, potassium, and cancer-fighting antioxidants.
