Three Easy Breads to Make at Home

Is there anything better than fresh out of the oven, home baked bread? Although it’s a treat many of us enjoy, it can feel like there’s not enough time in the week to focus on baking bread from scratch. But there are ways of getting homemade bread no the table faster, check out these recipes for easy breads to make at home.

Flatbreads

Ingredients (to make 10 flatbreads):

  • 1 cup of plain flour
  • 1/4 cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the salt and the flour together.
  2. Slowly pour in the water, and lightly knead to form a dough.
  3. Add the oil, and knead to form a smooth dough.
  4. Shape into small balls about the size of your palm, then press flat.
  5. Fry in a small amount of oil over medium heat, until browned on both sides.

Soda Bread

Ingredients (to make 1 loaf):

  • 2 cups of plain wholemeal flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 teaspoons of honey

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt and, bicarbonate of soda.
  2. Mix the milk and lemon juice in a jug, then stir through the honey.
  3. Pour the liquid into the four mixture, and stir through with a knife until it forms a sticky dough.
  4. Shape into a ball, place on a baking tray, and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.

Bread Rolls

Ingredients (to make 12 rolls):

  • 3 cups of bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon of dried yeast
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix together the sugar, water and yeast. After a few minutes, the yeast should start frothing.
  2. Pour this liquid into the flour, add a pinch of salt, and knead well.
  3. Leave to rest for 10 minutes, knead again, and then shape into rolls.
  4. Bake in an oven heated to 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
