Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine active dry yeast, sugar, and warm water. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until a smooth dough forms. Allow it to rise in a covered bowl for 1-2 hours.
  2. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle on a floured surface.
  3. In the center of each circle, layer ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, marinara sauce, pepperoni, bell peppers, and black olives. Fold the dough over the filling, creating a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  4. Bake the calzones on a preheated baking sheet for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Garnish with fresh basil and serve them hot and enjoy!
