Hummus is one of the most beloved dips in the world as it goes with so many things and has a delightful savoriness. You can also customize it to have it with any flavor profile you like, such as basil or tomato. Here’s a recipe for how to make hummus according to your preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 tin of chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional additions: roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, cayenne pepper, or fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine your chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, garlic, ground cumin, and lemon juice. Blend the ingredients until smooth, scraping down the sides of the processor as needed.
  2. Add salt and pepper to taste, adjusting the seasoning according to your preference. For a traditional hummus base, you can stop here. If you want to add extra flavors, continue with the next step.
  3. Incorporate optional ingredients such as roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, a pinch of cayenne pepper, or fresh herbs. Blend until the desired texture is achieved. Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning or add more olive oil for a creamier consistency.
  4. Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, and drizzle a bit of olive oil over the hummus and garnish with additional toppings if desired. Serve your custom hummus with pita bread, vegetable sticks, or as a delightful spread on sandwiches.
