Unique Thanksgiving Foods Found Throughout America

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, with the annual celebration held on the fourth Thursday of the month taking place on the 26th this go around. While we’re all familiar with classic staples like roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and rolls on this holiday, there are some treats that are only enjoyed in certain parts of the U.S. when it comes time to celebrate Thanksgiving. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting ones!

Pumpkin Empanadas

If you head to the southwest of the United States in states like Arizona and New Mexico, you’ll begin to notice more and more Spanish and Mexican influences. This extends to Thanksgiving when you’ll be able to eat this variant of a popular breaded and fried pastry that originally comes from Spain, but filled with pumpkin.

Fried Turkey

The South of the United States has a rich tapestry of culinary traditions which includes deep-frying plenty of foods. This extends to Thanksgiving, as more and more people choose to deep-fry their turkeys instead of roasting them. This is quite dangerous, however, as the turkey can spark a fire if not properly defrosted and if not placed in a large enough container.

Hasty Pudding

The Northeast region of the country is where the Thanksgiving tradition started in colonial times, and hasty pudding is a treat that has its origins in the first Thanksgivings. A porridge of grains made in milk and water and combined with maple syrup or brown sugar for sweetness, this is about as traditional as it gets.
