Making cranberry sauce from scratch is a great way to add some flavor to Thanksgiving dinner. However, buying canned cranberry sauce is just fine if you are in a rush. Just don’t serve it as it is. Instead, upgrade it with these tips to make it taste way better.

Add Some Sweetness

Canned cranberry sauce can often taste slightly bitter. This can be easily fixed if you add a tablespoon of maple syrup or honey. Even if there is no bitterness present, some sweetness will make a world of difference.

Throw in Some Crushed Nuts

You would be surprised how great cranberry sauce can be if you introduce some crunchy component to it. Mixing in crushed almonds, pecans, or walnuts will add some excitement to cranberry sauce that the canned version can especially benefit from.

Add Citruses

Acidity from citrus fruits pairs wonderfully with cranberry sauce, so it is bound to improve the canned version. Your best choice is to mix in freshly squeezed orange juice and simmer the cranberry juice on the stove. Alternatively, you can also use lemon juice.

Heat it Up

After you’ve made your preferred additions to the canned cranberry sauce, heat it up. The heat will bring out the flavors and make it even more appetizing. Just remember not to serve it before it chills a bit.
