Peppers are an increasingly popular food that are popping up in dishes everywhere. They are excellent in salads, on pizzas, in chilis and in fajita wraps. But what is the best way to cut them? As well as a white rind that is bitter to the taste, they are full of tiny seeds that can get everywhere and ruin a perfectly good meal.

Here’s how to chop your bell peppers perfectly with one simple trick.

Find a Sharp Knife

The first requirement is to ensure you have a sharp vegetable chopping knife. A blunt knife cannot penetrate the fruit precisely enough and often results in blasting seeds all over the kitchen.

Chop the Top

Take your pepper in one hand, and slowly but around the green patch that surrounds the stalk at the top. Take care not to cut into the green or to cut off the whole top from the side.

Pull Out the Stalk

Once you have cut around the stalk, grasp it, and gently pull it out. It should come off with the interior of the pepper attached to it. This will remove the pips and ensure you are left with just the good bits.

Remove White Rind and Slice

Then simply slice the pepper however you like, taking care to remove the white rind on the interior if there is any.
