What’s the Difference Between Brussels Sprout and Cabbage?

Many people call Brussels sprouts “baby cabbages”, and it’s not difficult to see why. They belong to the same plant family and have many things in common, but there are many differences that set them apart and make them special in their own right.

Different Taste

The most important thing that sets one plant from another is its taste, which impacts its preparation process. Brussels sprouts are more bitter than cabbages, and grilling, roasting, boiling, or stir-frying them is your best bet. You can do the same with cabbages, but they can taste just as amazing when eaten raw in salads and slaws.

Growth Factors

You don’t have to taste these two veggies to tell they’re pretty different since that’s pretty clear from the moment they start growing. Unlike cabbages, which grow their big heads close to the ground, Brussels sprouts grow on a tall central stem that can hold their tiny heads.

Nutritional Value

Brussels sprouts are generally considered a healthier version of cabbages because they’re much more nutritious. Their levels of vitamins A and C, potassium, and magnesium are higher, while cabbages contain more sugar, resulting in their sweeter taste.
