You Can Actually Quick Soak Black Beans

Black beans are some of the more difficult beans to cook when they’re dried, but don’t feel like they’re not achievable! You can actually cook them and pretty quickly as well without having to wait overnight to soak them. With the quick soaking method, you can have the beans completely done within 3 1/2-4 hours total, and when it comes to beans, that’s pretty fast. You might find that the beans will split during the cooking process, but if you’re ok with an appearance that isn’t necessarily so beautiful, you have to make these beans.

Instructions

  1. To quick-soak the beans put them in a pot and cover them with two inches of water.
  2. Put the lid on and bring them to a boil and boil for just a couple of minutes.
  3. Take the pot off the heat and let it sit with the lid closed for 2 hours.
  4. After 2 hours, drain and rinse the beans and put them back into the pot.
  5. Cover the beans with at least 3-4 inches of water and add in some garlic cloves, pieces of onion, and a bay leaf and put the lid on again.
  6. Bring it back up to a boil and let it boil for about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Bring the temperature down to a simmer and cook for 1 1/2-2 hour or until soft.
  8. At that point, you can season the beans with salt and any other spices and enjoy!
