Make your own cinnamon twists and enjoy a chewy and wonderfully sweet pastry that will melt in your mouth. These twisted pastries, coated in a sugary cinnamon glaze, are a perfect treat for breakfast or as a delightful snack. Here’s a recipe for how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup of warm milk (around 110°F/43°C)
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of melted unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and egg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine. Gradually add the flour and salt, kneading until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour a little at a time. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle. In a small bowl, mix together sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling.
  4. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the surface. Fold the dough in half to encase the cinnamon sugar, then cut the dough into strips. Twist each strip and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over your warm cinnamon twists. Allow the twists to cool slightly before serving.
