If you’ve ever visited Spain before, you might have seen a drink on a restaurant menu called a “carajillo” and wondered what exactly it was. A carajillo is a coffee cocktail that blends liqueur and espresso, adds ice, and creates a perfect after-dinner aperitif. So, would you like to learn how to make an authentic carajillo at home? Here’s how!

Ingredients

  • One double shot of espresso coffee (around 2 to 3 ounces)
  • One shot of Licor 43
  • Two ice cubes
  • One short cocktail glass

Instructions

Making a carajillo is not difficult, but you do have to be careful about the order of the steps you take and the ingredients you use in order to make sure that it is made correctly.

First, start out by brewing a double shot of espresso or simply by making two separate shots if your machine doesn’t have the capacity to make a double shot.

Next, add the coffee over the two ice cubes and allow it to cool slightly before adding one shot of Licor 43. Stir gently with a spoon but be sure to completely mix the two drinks together.

Sip slowly at your own preferred temperature and let the dark, bitter, roastiness of the coffee combine for a delicious drink with the sweet spiciness of the liquor. Enjoy!
