3 Alternatives to Mashed Potato

Everyone knows that potatoes are the most versatile food. For those days when you want mash, but don’t want potato,here are three great alternatives. 

Mashed Butter Beans 

This one is so simple. Get some canned butter beans, and drain and rinse them. Add to a bowl and mash up until it has reached your desired consistency. You can heat this up, or leave at room temperature. This delicious side works well with so many meals and is high in protein. 

Mashed Carrot and Swede

This is a great way to pack in as much veg as possible while having a close replicate of mashed potato. Boil up some carrot and swede, and once cooked place in a bowl and mash up until smooth. You can add seasoning, as well as butter or milk if you like. This goes great with gravy and meat. 

Mashed Cauliflower 

Cauliflower seems to be used as an alternative in so many meals these days and for good reason. This healthy vegetable is easy to cook, and the flavor pairs well with many things. Just cut up and boil a head of cauliflower, then drain and mash in the pot. You will want to add some liquid such as milk or butter to help the consistency.
