Out of all the different types of mild sicknesses you can get, one that’s pretty darn annoying is heartburn. We all know that painful feeling in the chest that arises, flavored by an acidic texture and certainly not a friendly one. If you’re experiencing feelings of heartburn, it could be that one of the following foods was responsible.

Citrus Fruits

One of the first foods to consider when trying to avoid heartburn is citrus fruits. This means grapefruits, oranges, lemons, and tomatoes as well. All of these elements can raise the acidity level in your stomach and contribute to heartburn pains.

Spicy Foods

Spicy foods are also pretty well known for contributing to feelings of heartburn because they can relax the lower esophageal sphincter and create a backflow of stomach acid (yes, we know how gross that sounds). This is especially true when it comes to spicy foods that contain chili peppers.

Fatty or Fried Foods

Finally, fatty and fried foods are also infamous for helping to cause heartburn (in case you haven’t noticed, all of the tastiest foods cause heartburn!). This is because they generally take longer for your stomach to digest, which can, just like spicy foods, relax the lower esophageal sphincter and cause an acid backflow.
