5 Tips for Roasting a Turkey

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and you are probably already thinking about how to roast the traditional turkey. We gathered some great tips for you which will make this year’s meal even more special.

Size

You should always try and fit the size of the turkey you are roasting for the number of guests that you expect to host. You should consider around .75 pounds of turkey per person. If you have many guests, it is better to roast two small turkeys than a big one.

Temperature

What you really want to avoid is drying up your turkey because you cooked it at a temperature that was too high. Some people prefer to shorten the cooking time by first cooking the turkey on a high heat and then reducing it. If you have some extra time, you might want to cook it steadily at 320 F.

Oil Rubbing

Turkey meat tends to be very slim and so it dries easily. Make sure you rub it with olive oil or melted butter evenly before you put it in the oven.

Resting

Wait for at least 20 minutes after you take the turkey out of the oven and before you serve it. It will allow the juice to redistribute and it will make it moister.

Stuffing

For some families, it is traditional to stuff the turkey. However, a stuffed turkey takes longer to cook and might dry it up. We suggest cooking the stuffing in a different baking pan next to the turkey.
