Parmesan cheese is a perfect addition to pasta, risotto, soup, and much more, so you always want to have some in your fridge. However, sometimes you might end up forgetting all about it and discover after some time that it has dried out.

If you encounter dried-out parmesan cheese in your fridge, don’t throw it away. Instead, just use a little trick from TV personality and cookbook author Martha Stewart to bring it back to life.

Stewart recently shared a vintage clip on her social media in which she demonstrated how to revive dried-out parmesan cheese. According to Stewart, you need to take a piece of cheesecloth, soak it in water, and then wrap the parmesan cheese in it. Next, add a layer of plastic wrap around and leave it in the fridge overnight.

“You’ll see that you have revived the cheese very nicely,” she says in the video.

Stewart also revealed that the best way to store parmesan cheese is to wrap plastic wrap around it once you bring it home and store it in the fridge. This has been proven to be very efficient, as the plastic wrap keeps the air from getting to the cheese and drying it out. It also prevents the cheese from taking on the smell of other food items in the refrigerator.
