If you are vegetarian or vegan, Indian cuisine has some really inspiring recipes that can adhere to both lifestyles. Hinduism, the religion that is most practiced in India, does not allow for the consumption of most meats and eggs, so you will find that true traditional Indian food actually is completely vegan with the occasional addition of cheese. Here is a great recipe for chana masala, give a try tonight!

Ingredients

For this recipe, you will need chickpeas, crushed or diced tomatoes, garlic, onion, a hot pepper, and loads of spices. What makes this dish so flavorful is the number of spices. You can add as much or as little as you want, but the main spices should be garam masala,  coriander, chili, cumin, and turmeric.

Instructions

  1. Fry the onions with some cumin and salt
  2. Use a mortar and pestle or a food processor to combine the hot pepper with garlic, ginger, and cilantro
  3. Add this spice mixture to the onions along with all the spices except for the garam masala
  4. Add the chickpeas and tomatoes, cook for a while, and add the garam masala towards the end
  5. Cook it for at least 20-30 minutes
