Halloween Candies To Make At Home

Halloween is almost around the corner, and it’s not always the cheapest or healthiest to buy candy for your kids or trick-or-treaters. These sweet treats are quick to whip up and will go down well with guests and trick-or-treaters alike.

Caramel Pumpkin Cakes

Ingredients (to make 10):

  • 4 tablespoons of golden syrup
  • 1/2 cup of golden caster sugar
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon of orange food coloring
  • 1 cup of plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Cream half of the butter and all of the dark brown sugar together in a bowl.
  2. Sift in the flour and baking powder, whisk in the eggs and milk. Stir well to form a batter.
  3. Pour the batter into muffin cases and bake in an oven heated to 340 degrees for 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, make the caramel – melt the golden syrup and sugar with the rest of the butter.
  5. Stir in the food coloring and allspice, remove from the heat but keep stirring.
  6. Remove the cakes from the oven, allow to cool, and then drizzle over some of the orange colored caramel.

Chocolate Swamp Stew

Ingredients (to serve 8):

  • 8 crackers or breadsticks, for dipping
  • 1 cup of broken chocolate pieces
  • 10 marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup of cream
  • 1/2 cup of mixed candies

Instructions:

  1. Melt the chocolate in a pan over a medium heat.
  2. Once the chocolate has completely melted, slowly add the cream.
  3. Add the candies and marshmallows, and ask your guests to dig into the chocolate swamp!
