Have Leftover Cookies? Here’s How to Freeze Them

This holiday season we’re making lots of cookies and it’s always nice to have fresh cookies for your guests. But when we’re pressed for time, having fresh cookies isn’t always possible. Did you know that you can keep premade cookies in the freezer, so you’ll have them ready at any time? The best ones to freeze are drop cookies like chocolate chip or oatmeal, cutout cookies, shortbread cookies, slice-and-bake cookies, and bar cookies. Here’s your step-by-step guide for how to freeze cookies.

Step 1

Let the cookies cool completely after baking and then place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze them until they’re solid. This prevents the cookies from freezing together when they’re frozen.

Step 2

Put the cookies in an airtight container with parchment or wax paper between the layers and then put them in the freezer. You can freeze the cookies for up to three months.

Step 3

When you’re ready to serve the cookies, take them out of the freezer and remove any wrapping. Let the cookies thaw completely at room temperature or in the fridge. You can also microwave the cookies for about 30 seconds if you are pressed for time.
