You already know that yogurt is good for your gut health, protein intake, and strengthening the immune system, but did you know that it can also protect you from lung cancer? According to this study, there’s a connection between a high intake of yogurt and a reduced risk of lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.

Connecting The Dots

The research published in JAMA Oncology was based on an analysis of ten different studies that involved around 1.4 million people combined. Such a big sample was very useful in observing in learning whether some new connections can be made.

It was found that eating yogurt and fiber is connected to a reduced risk of lung cancer, and even small amounts of either yogurt or fiber help decrease the risk of it. The more you eat, the healthier you’ll be.

Within Proper Context

However, that doesn’t mean that all you have to do is eat yogurt and you’ll be fine. It’s still important to stay healthy in other aspects of your life as well. For instance, people who smoke are still at the highest risk of developing lung cancer, no matter how much yogurt they eat. A healthy and balanced diet is necessary but not the only criteria for a long and healthy life.
