There’s nothing more American than apple pie, but how do you ensure the perfect pie every time? Read on for the only recipe you’ll ever need.

Ingredients:

Crust

  • 1 box Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed by the manufacturers

Filling

  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 nutmeg, ground
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method:

Pre-heat the oven to 425°F.

Place 1 pie crust into an ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate. Press dough firmly against bottom and sides.

In a large bowl, mix together filling ingredients. Spoon into the crust-lined pie plate.

Top with a second pie crust, wrapping excess crust under the edge of the bottom crust. Press the edges together to seal. Flute the edges with your fingers or press with a fork. Prick the pie with a fork to allow steam to escape, or cut slits in the top if preferred.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden. After first 15 minutes of baking, cover crust edge with strips of foil to prevent burning.

Allow cooling for at least 2 hours before serving.
