When it comes to cooking and baking, sometimes using wither fresh or frozen fruit can make all of the difference. In other cases, it won’t matter so much, but it’s good to know what kind of recipes are more tolerant of different fruits and which are not. If you are trying to decide between fresh and frozen, this is the guide for you.

Muffins

If you are making a fruity muffin, you actually can use either fresh or frozen fruit! The most important thing about making fruit muffins is to make sure the fruit is first coasted in flour so it disperses evenly throughout the muffins and doesn’t all sink to the bottom.

Smoothies

For smoothies, using frozen can actually be a bit more beneficial than using fresh fruit. This is because you want a cold smoothie, so instead of using ice and watering it down, using frozen fruit will do the work of the ice and the fruit.

Compote

For a fruit compote to pour over ice cream, cake, or any other dessert, you can go for either fresh or frozen fruit. If you want it to taste really fresh, the best thing is to use fresh fruit that is also in season.
