We love salad at any time of the year, but the dish definitely becomes a staple during the summer. Salads can be made as simple or innovative as you like, but it all comes down to the ingredients used and how you store them. Nothing is worse than a salad that has collected a pool of water at the bottom of its container. Here’s how to keep that from happening.

Do a Dry-By

No one likes lettuce that has lost its crispness or tomatoes that have gone over to the soggy side… Eliminate as much moisture as possible by patting down all your ingredients before adding them to the salad. Lettuce can also hold out longer by placing paper towels between the leaves while being stored in the fridge.

Keep the Crunch

A great way to add some interest to your salad is by including crunchy items like nuts, seeds, and croutons. However, these guys can get soggy rather quickly, so best to keep them aside until you are ready to serve. Keep them at room temperature and away from any moisture.

Storage Situation

Once your salad has been assembled, where you place it has an impact. Store your salad on a higher shelf in the fridge as this will prevent anything above from dripping onto it. You also want to avoid the back of the refrigerator as it tends to get very cold and could cause your salad to spoil.
