The 2020 Food Trends You’ll See Everywhere

Each year it seems like food trends come and go, but in 2020 many of them are here to stay. 2019 was all about a shift in a healthier lifestyle with a focus on clean-eating and plant-based products. This won’t change in 2020, but some new trends will emerge. What foods should you expect to see in 2020?

Concept Kitchens

Watching our food get prepared is all part of the experience and concept kitchens are making that easier. They’re not only cleaner and more sanitary, but the ingredients are also fresher. Subway and Chipotle have been using this idea for a while, but fine-dining restaurants are going to explore this trend.

Zero-Waste

So much edible food ends up being thrown away each year; about 1.3 billion tons worth. By 2025 food waste will rise to 2.2 billion, which is absolutely ridiculous. Are you wondering how so much food is wasted? Well, supermarkets throw away lots of fruits and vegetables when they don’t meet the quality standards. They may be misshapen or the wrong color, but nonetheless, they’re perfectly edible. The good news is the government has finally decided to crack down on food waste in 2020.

Fermented Beverages & Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Millennials are responsible for this trend as they’ve cut down on the amount of sugary and alcoholic drinks they’re consuming, instead of turning to alcoholic beverages with lower alcohol contents and kombucha. Alcohol still water, which is just spiked water beverages without fizz, will be seen all over the shelves.

Healthy Snacks

Reaching for snacks is so much easier than preparing meals, especially when you don’t have the time to prepare food or sit down. Popped and puffed snacks and protein and plant-based snacks will rise in popularity, replacing more common snacks such as chips and pretzels.
