Summer is the best time for watching sports. Whether you’re pitch-side or watching from the sofa at home, all the excitement of watching your favorite sport can make you hungry. But you won’t want to leave the action right at the nail-biting finale. Make these snacks ahead of time, so you can munch away without taking your eyes off the ball.
Seasoned Vegetable Sticks
These are crunchy, healthy, and delicious. Any combination of fresh vegetables will work, but generally, options like carrots, cucumber, celery, and radishes are the best. You will need a mix of vegetables, some olive oil, some garlic paste, some harissa paste, and some salt.
In a bowl, mix the oil with a teaspoon each of garlic and harissa paste. Sprinkle a little salt in to taste. If you wish you can also add a squeeze of lemon. Slice the vegetables thinly, then pour over your dressing. Serve in a large bowl so that you and your guests can help yourselves.
Homemade Tortilla Chips
In a bowl, mix 200 grams of polenta with 200 milliliters of water. Combine to form a dough, then season this with salt and black pepper. Shape the dough into tortillas, then pan-fry in a little oil for one to two minutes on each side. Allow to cool, then slice. Now is the time to add more seasoning, a little paprika and cayenne pepper work well. Place the tortilla strips on a lined baking tray and bake in a hot oven until crisp. These work well when served with a dip such as hummus or aioli.
Mango and Chilli Guacamole
This is delicious when served with chips for dipping, or simply spooned out of the bowl! You will need two ripe avocados, one ripe mango, one chili, one lime, and salt.
Mash the avocado in a bowl and add the juice of the lime and a pinch of salt. Cut up the mango into small pieces and slice the chili very finely. Stir these through the avocado, use a little oil to loosen the mix if needed.
