America is a cultural melting pot that has food influences from all around the world. However, there are some misconceptions about what is “true American food” and what was created outside the US. Here is a list of foods that you love that you might have thought were American, but are not, and vice versa.

Russian Dressing

Although the name should say it all, Russian dressing was actually created in New Hampshire in the early 20th century. The reason for the name is because originally it did have caviar in it, which is one of Russia’s most famous ingredients, although now it is simply a mixture of mayo and ketchup.

Pasta Primavera

Pasta is always thought to be an Italian dish, no matter what type it is. However, this pasta dish which puts vegetables in the forefront was actually invented in Italy, but instead, New York.

French Fries

This one is trickiest of them all. Not only are french fries not French, they are also not even American! This fast food staple actually traces back to 17th century Belgium, but it still just as popular today in the country as street food. Interestingly, the Belgian eat their fries with ketchup and mayo.
