When the weather turns chilly, nothing beats a cozy dinner at home. And what could be more comforting than a bowl of warm, homemade chicken dumplings? Let’s dive into this all-time favorite.

Ingredients

For the Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

For the Filling

  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrot
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Broth

  • Unless you want to make your own: 4 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add milk and melted butter to form a soft dough. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, combine the chicken, onion, celery, carrot, garlic, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth and water to a boil. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions. Flatten each piece and spoon a small amount of filling into the center. Seal the edges and gently drop the dumplings into the simmering broth. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
