Ice cream has a long history as an American favorite. This creamy, rich, dairy treat has been popular in the United States since colonial times when it was a rare delicacy. Now, ice cream is accessible for all in this massive country, and tons of flavors are available for consumers to try.

These are the United States’ most popular ice cream flavors. Do any of them surprise you?

Vanilla

It should come as no surprise that vanilla is the United States’ most popular ice cream flavor. This classic flavor can be combined with a number of toppings and is also creamy and delicious on its own.

Chocolate

Plain old chocolate ice cream is the second-most popular flavor in America. One of my favorite ways to put a fruity twist on this flavor is to top it with whipped cream and sliced strawberries. Yum!

Cookies and Cream

Coming in at number three is cookies and cream, a flavor that combines sweet cream ice cream with chocolate cookie chunks. Inspired by Oreo cookies, this flavor has become more and more popular in recent years, and it’s easy to see why.

Mint Chocolate Chip

Those that love mint will undoubtedly be big fans of number four on the list. Mint and chocolate go together perfectly, and this flavor goes especially well with chocolate sauce and/or chocolate shavings.
